Because feedwater heater performance is easy to measure against expectation — the plant's overall heat rate either improves as predicted or it doesn't — this is an area where engineering accountability matters. We also review integration with the broader steam cycle — extraction pressure, drain routing, and cascading drain arrangements to other heaters in the train — since a feedwater heater rarely performs as an isolated piece of equipment.
